Our platform provides the best listening experience and access to exclusive Spanish audio content from top local creators, in addition to 250K audiobooks. By simply putting on their headphones 15min a day, our app enables listeners to invest in their personal development whenever their hands are busy but their mind is free (e.g: working out, walking their dog, commuting). At the same time, creators make money every second someone listens to their content, so they are incentivized to keep providing our listeners with amazing content.

About the Role

As Design Manager, you will act as Beek’s Design Organization champion, partnering with all areas of the company to create and streamline design processes and guidelines, and will be charged with maintaining a healthy, agile and structured Product Design and Graphic Design Team.

In this position, you’ll be Beek’s go-to person for all Design-related initiatives and you will be tasked with developing, managing, hiring and retaining our Design Team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Management and hiring
    • Leads the design direction of Beek's product and content to fulfill a user-centered experience for all customers through the value proposition
    • Coach members of the Design Team: product designers and graphic designers, providing both project feedback and career guidance, creating opportunities for your team members to thrive
    • Recruit, prospect and hire a world-class design team
    • Create a culture and environment where team members can do the best work of their lives
    • Nurture a positive, creative, and inclusive atmosphere that encourages collaboration, boldness, constructive and respectful feedback
    • Track and evaluate finished designs for feedback. Including filtering through user research and usability testings to create an overall picture of how well the design performed
  • Design processes and cross-team communication
    • Build, manage, and improve core processes to help the Design Team create amazing user experiences, including scoping, reviews, research, and handoffs
    • Create structure and processes that enable close collaboration with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Customer Success, and other teams across the company to define and ensure a consistent brand experience
    • Establish user research best practices, including defining processes, methods, and sharing insights
    • Define how the team works in order to increase efficiency and quality Design execution
    • Deliver and inspire innovative and high quality work across all deliverables from the team
    • Define and update documentation explaining Design Team core capabilities to help improve cross-team communication and facilitate scaling of the area
    • Shares product and performance information with the design team in order to establish clearer goals, brand guidelines, and design principles
  • Branding ownership & Design Ops
    • Maintain brand consistency, design systems, guidelines and principles, throughout the entire company.
    • Responsible to learn, understand and integrate new visual design treatments and technologies. Actively lead, teach and inspire to reach new levels of excellence in consumer experiences
  • Business oriented
    • Partner with peers in Product Management, Engineering, Growth, Content and Operations, and more to define a shared vision and roadmap for the company
    • Closely collaborate with stakeholders to quickly transform brilliant ideas to experiments and experiences
    • Lead quarterly planning and reporting on Design KPIs, goals, and leading actions, ensuring Design initiatives match company objectives.
    • Be involved with Beek's presentation to customers, creators and investors
    • Measure and monitor the KPIs of the Design team
    • Reporting to the Head of Product on future complications that might affect the product's goals
    • Along with the Head of Product have the final word in design changes and improvements in the product
    • Along with the Head of Marketing have the final word in design changes and usages on paid marketing
    • Owns Design tools, costs and optimizations to satisfy Design, Product, Content and Marketing needs
    • Owns the Design Processes, Design Principles, Design System, and Beek's branding

About you

Experience, knowledge, and understanding:

  • You have experience developing Design processes or systems in an ambiguous, high-paced environment
  • You are adaptable to change, collaborative, and can work through ambiguity with ease
  • You have excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to juggle multiple competing priorities
  • You have an analytical mindset that leverages a variety of data sources to make decisions
  • You have an impressive track record of designing products and user experiences that engage, inspire, and delight the customer
  • You understand how a great Design organization works, and have a clear idea of the processes to have in place to make it succeed.

Technical skills:

  • Should be a super talented and hands-on Designer to develop packaging, graphic toolkits, key visuals, mockups, concepts, and presentations for 360 design solutions as well as craft design briefs for outside partners and agencies.
  • Effectively communicates (verbally and written) with internal and external stakeholders across all levels.
  • Exceptional design skills, including layout, typography, video, motion, design patterns, and copywriting
  • Should have a mastery level of understanding of the Adobe Suite with emphasis on Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Strong understanding of digital and social platforms as well as their use within marketing
  • Should display exceptional typography and layout skills with attention to detail.

Qualifications:

  • Have 6+ years of proven Design experience as an Individual contributor and 3+ years of proven experience leading or managing and building a Design team
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Art or Graphic Design
  • You can clearly articulate, both verbally and in writing, clear Design strategies to cross-functional partners and our leadership team
  • You have an entrepreneurial spirit and mindset with a focus on possibilities (not obstacles)
  • You're a designer at heart. You continue to design in your spare time and have a portfolio of which you're proud. A portfolio that demonstrates big thinking that can extend into any medium
  • Customer-obsessed, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic team player
  • Native or bilingual proficiency in Spanish and at least C1 proficiency in English
